There is so much I want to share with you all…
So many new travels and so many new life changes…
Right now, I’m sitting at our 9.5-foot dining room table with my Washington D.C. Starbucks mug filled with a creamy chai tea latte looking out on our back patio into our yard at all the lush greenery completely content. Le sigh.
It has taken me a while to get here to this point.
Content.
We moved and I am surrounded by reminders that I should be up putting things away, but here in this moment I am content to simply be.
Being.
It’s something we don’t get to do very often, at least I know that I don’t get to do it very often.
I’m far too busy moming, wifeing, working, cooking, friending, moving, shaking, doing thising and thating to sit around and be content being.
But this morning I made the conscious effort to get up, grab this latte, and sit back to watch the birds play in my epic sanctuary of a backyard. I was praying that they find the feeder we left out for them and low and behold today of all days, they found it. Glorious. (Romans 8:28)
Peacefully being me and the birds.
You know cool things come about from being still too…
I could read my bible. I could write this. I could pray. It was awesome.
I could think clearly and put down some goals that I wanted to accomplish in the upcoming months. It was nice and I look forward to seeing if the addition of stillness to my routine changes my trajectory. Worth a shot. 😉
But I digress… settling in hmmm…
We are movers. I think we’ve come to realize this a bit ago. While I don’t think we enjoy the act of moving, we do enjoy change. This new move has brought with it the welcome change of incredibly happy children.
We literally weren’t in our new home for 5 minutes and the kids already had 3 friends a piece and were gone. “Bye Mom, Bye Dad” and just like that they were off. It was exactly what we were hoping for and so much more. The new friends and their parents are lovely. We are blessed in that regard and we are looking forward to the kids having friends for life.
I have so much more to share with you, especially about Austria. Oh Salzburg. Innsbruck! Summer was such fun! I can’t wait to winter with you… You were delicious too…
Y’all… if you ever get the chance to visit Austria, please do; I am looking forward to sharing our experiences there with you, but until the next post…
You can find me deliciously settling in…
Anyone want to come help with these boxes? Ha!
Until Next Yum,
Lori

LOL. Settling in always sounds so peaceful, but it’s really a ton of work. The boxes… So. Many. Boxes…

I’m so jealous right now. Last year I had an epic backyard, this year I’m in an epic house with a terrible yard. Guess I’ll have to start traveling more to see better scenery. 🙂

I love how kids make friends so fast. So innocent and trusting and accepting of everyone. Moving can be a pain for sure! I think I may still have some stuff in boxes and we moved like 2 years ago!

Others may hear settling in as easy words, but it takes lot of patience and hard work. Love how your kids adjusted, they made things easier for you, they’re so kind!

It is so important sometimes to smell the roses. I have never been to Austria but it seems so magical and tranquil. Good luck on unpacking.

I moved 7 months ago and I’m still settling in lol. That photo is absolutely precious. It would make a gorgeous canvas. I’m jealous of your creamy chai tea latte BTW, lol.

I would love to visit Austria. I really haven’t seen that much of Europe. But I had a friend my junior year of high school who was an exchange student from Austria. Congrats on the move. Those are always so stressful.

So beautiful! I loved reading this. It is so important that we stop. Just stop and take in moments of peace. The internet will still be there. The blog post will be patiently waiting to be edited. But our peace will not always be there if we do not grab it. Thanks for the reminder 🙂

It does take a while for us to just find the contentment, I think it’s because we keep changing through the years and we yearn for something different. It’s so nice to hear that your kids are having a great time though.

We are just in the middle of a move so I can definitely empathise with you on all the stresses of moving! But nothing beats being in that new home and being able to unpack all your things and make it yours. So lovely that the kids are settling in too

I am happy that you are settling in your new abode. It may take a lot of adjustment, and a whole lot of learning but once you feel that you are “home,” nothing else matters. I wish I also had a huge backyard where I could just sit and admire the beauty of the world.

I got used to moving from being in the military and it was definitely difficult to settle in knowing you’re going to move eventually. Now that we’re permanently living in Colorado, we’ve gotten used to everything and I don’t think I’ll be moving for a really long time. I hope you finally get around to unpacking all the boxes! It does take time too!

It is so important to catch those moments and just breathe. I also like the mornings, when nobody else is awake, to just allow myself to fully wake myself and enjoy it. I am like you, not particularly fond of the moving (I’ve moved SO many times in my life) but the change is refreshing. Austria sounds beyond amazing!

I can relate to the joy of change, while I dislike moving, we have been renters for a long time now. Each year it seems we have to move again, while I would much prefer a couple of years in between, I do know that settling into a new place is always really great. I know the place we are in now is a longer term rental, but I crave change so I think I will switch up the living room to make it look different 😉 I am glad that you feel content, it’s a great feeling.

It’s been so long since I last transferred and I’ve forgotten what it feels like to move in a new house and a new neighborhood. I think settling in will always take time though. At least the kids are enjoying their new home!

I am not a fan of change myself but if I have time to get used to the idea before it happens then I usually cope well! We moved house 18 months ago and I did not find it an easy process, we moved from a house we loved to one that was not so great purely due to my son’s new school. We have only been here a short time but I’m getting itchy feet again!
