Friends,
In 2020, I’m sharing a life-changing thought with you…
“It’s okay to say no.”
Crazy right?
Friends going out to a bar and you want to stay in? Say no.
Invited to something you loathe the thought of going to? SAY NO!
It’s radically mindset shifting when we begin to say no to the things we don’t want, maybe to the things we might want, and an unapologetic yes to the things we love.
In 2020, it’s okay to say no, maybe, yes. It’s okay to choose ourselves, to not answer the phone calls or texts, to break plans, and to save yourself if you’re drained, overwhelmed, and tired.
Take care of yourself. Be kind to yourself. Love and respect yourself. It’s okay.
Some people are draining and they don’t even know it… That’s okay. You can make the choice to protect yourself from that energy. It’s okay.
I hope that this message carries you through 2020 and beyond. I hope this post gives you the permission that you don’t really need, but might just need to hear, it’s okay.
And with that, I’m off to enjoy this snowy four day weekend with The Foodie Fam.
Until next taste,
Foodie Finds Home

have you read the book “boundaries”? one of the best lessons my therapist taught me when i was in college was to say NO. she had me say NO once a day no matter how trivial a situation. joy

I have not read this book, but I’ll definitely put it on my 2020 to-read list. It sounds interesting and right up my alley. Thanks for the recommendation.

I’ve made more conscious decisions to say “no”, when the situation warrants. I feel I don’t owe anyone an explanation, any more than anyone who says no to my invitation.

I feel like I should say no, but cannot and don’t think about myself.. thanks for this support, I should try to say No, but why it’s so hard sometimes 😦

Yes!!! Learning how to say “no” and setting boundaries can be super difficult, but it is well worth it. My friend and I were actually just discussing this a couple of days ago.

Having a bigger YES often helps you to say NO. When you take the time to consider your priorities, and have something else important, it puts the requests of others in context. Instead of a choice between “their request” and “nothing” you have have a choice between “their request” and “something important to ME.”

Agreed. I’ve tried to do this more lately.

Usually I have always been the one to say yes to everything, especially if my help was needed… but I drastically learnt at work saying no to working overtime will be a priority from now on, as I don’t want any more health issues!

I used to struggle with saying no before I had kids. Now, it seems I say it all day long.

I agree! Stop trying to please everyone and say no once in awhile. haha. I used to feel bad about telling people no, but I have no problems doing it now. 🙂

Such an important topic to cover. I know that I am learning to set healthy boundaries this year and keeping with it. I love your inspiration write up.

Yes, I love your determination and commitment to choose yourself, this year and beyond! It’s kind of sad that so many of us dont feel like we have permission to say no. But if we don’t set the standard and path for our own lives, someone else definitely will!

I am glad you are posting about this! We (especially women) are taught not to say no when people ask us for most things. It’s important we make a habit of saying no when we don’t want to do something! Great post!

I used to say ‘yes’ to practically everything. I felt so obligated that I almost made myself crazy. Then I got fibromyalgia, and I had to learn to say ‘no.’ It still bothers me sometimes to say ‘no,’ but I am getting better at protecting my time and space.

Saying No can be liberating at times. I think that’s where feeling empowered comes from.

In my 30s no is actually me being polite . I think if your no delivery is sincere then it won’t be so bad to tell people no.

I love this! SO many people need to hear a “NO” in their lives and they need to respect what it stands for. Good one.
